Scuba Diving in Africa

There are few exciting places to go scuba diving in Africa. Scuba diving is a very popular activity for people who are island lovers. People who tend to frequent tropical islands also tend to enjoy diving in the water. Scuba diving is a great way to see the treasures of the ocean. Underwater you can observe fish and other sea creatures in their natural habitat and see beautiful colored coral.

There is a myriad collection of scintillating diving sites in Africa and zeroing down to one is inevitable. Each diving site poses its own identity and beneath the surface persona. There are many unique scuba diving spots to visit in Africa. You can dive on both sides of the continent though a lot of the diving takes place in the Red Sea and off the islands on the eastern coast. To be sure though, no matter where you dive you will find an abundance of sea life.

The Aliwal Shoal is one of the much explored scuba diving site in Africa and is also rated as one of the top 10 diving sites in the world. Coral reefs that range from 5m to 30, an underwater wonder of nature and a home to the Ragged Tooth Shark, humpbacked whales, dolphins and rare species of fish like Tiger Angel can be usually spotted in this area. Diving is most feasible during the winter months, during May to September when there are no signs of rain and the presence of reasonable viability.

The Seychelles also offers lots of dive opportunities for people. In the Seychelles, you can head to the Aldabra Atoll where you can dive with giant sea turtles. The warm waters of this area make it an excellent home for many tropical fish and coral reefs. In fact, the Seychelles offers some of the best diving in all of Africa. However, as the island is a luxury destination, you'll find diving here a bit more expensive than elsewhere.

There are two predominant areas where Great White diving is prevalent i.e. Gansbaai and Mosselbaai. Gansbaai is a small fishing village that offers several attractions for the nature wanderers with whale watching being the most popular. Shark diving and cage diving are launched from this cardinal point and is absolutely safe and requires no prior diving experience at all. All you need is a short course on safety and use of the equipment.

Africa has a lot of great places to go diving. Many times people do not go diving here because they just never hear about the excellent diving in the area. Most diving advertisements talk about the south pacific, or Asia, or Australia. They always leave Africa out and hence you get very few tourists here. This makes it a majestic place to dive as you will find pristine wild life here. Do not over look the area the next time you want to dive.
