Pulau Weh, Sumatra

Pulau Weh

Pulau Weh is where Indonesia begins. The island is the western most out of Indonesia, rising from Andaman Sea between the deep seas of the Indian Ocean to the west and the shallow waters of the Strait of Malacca, to the east.

This rugged volcanic island is reputed to be the hidden jewel of the South East Asia, offering holiday makers the very best of mother nature...notably, world class coral reefs and diving sites.

The destination is easily accessible from Banda Aceh in Sumatra and what it takes is merely an hour's ferry ride. Season in Pulau Weh is year round. Winds are less likely to effect the more popular dive sites from October to June, and there are fewer chances of heavy rain showers during these months. But no matter what time of the year you visit here, there are always places to dive because of the variety of locations around the islands. The dive operators here make every effort to select the best dive sites to make advantage of the changing conditions.

Water temperatures remain constant throughout the year, averaging 28 to 29 degrees Celsius, visibility ranges 30m to 40m with average depths range from 10m to 30m.

Most of the known dive sites here are situated in the West and dive site in the South East of the island still remains an insiders' secret, and off the beaten track, its offers unspoiled and uncrowded dive sites. Visitors will get unforgettable dives, from spectacular full-adrenaline dives to long slow relaxed colourful coral garden and macro spotting dives.
